Product Designer

We are in search for a self-starting, team player to join our dynamic team of project managers and product designers. This position requires an experienced Mechanical Technician/Technologist, skilled in using Inventor and Solid Works to design metal products to meet customer specifications. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and thrive in a fast-paced team environment.

Job Description

  • To produce design drawings and quotes to customers in a timely and cost effective manner
  • Participate in design control meetings
  • Work with Sales and Design Team to determine department priority list and ensuring customer expectations are met
  • Work with sales to determine customer needs and provide information on manufacturing capabilities
  • Manage and update product details and progress in basecamp
  • Attend meetings with sales to discuss product with customer – customer relations
  • Work with production team through prototype process and perform quality tests
  • Prepare cost estimates for new product runs
  • Monitor flow routers and bills of materials
  • Follow first production run of new products and ensure production team has all information required
  • Inform and train Customer Service and Sales Team on new products (specifications, components etc.)
  • Assist Customer Service through providing technical support to customers as required
  • Follow all ISO procedures and complete all related paperwork

Qualifications

  • College Diploma in Design and/or Mechanical Technician/Technology Diploma or related field
  • Minimum 5 years of design experience in manufacturing and metal fabrication environment is required
  • Proficient in Inventor, AutoCad, Solid Designer, 3D Modeling.
  • Lantek programming for Laser and NC Machines or related, similar software is an asset
  • Knowledge of JobBoss or similar MRP system is an asset
  • Good computer skills in Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Outlook
  • Excellent math skills
  • Knowledge of advanced QA procedures
  • Ability to read vernier/calipers and other measurement and testing tools.
  • Ability to be creative when designing, keeping manufacturing process and costs in mind
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work with all levels of the organization
  • Ability to multi-task and organize large amounts of correspondence and details effectively
  • Demonstrated customer focus with sense of urgency for deadlines
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong quality focus
  • Willing to participate in training and continue to upgrade skills
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment and keep up with daily demands of production
